Member spotlight: OWASP
In continuation with our member spotlight series, this week we highlight our partnership with The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), an exhibitor of the 2014 Secure360 Conference. OWASP is a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to improving software security. Their mission is to make software security transparent, so individuals, businesses and organizations can make informed decisions when it comes to IT security. Anyone is welcome to join and participation is free; additionally, all of OWASP’s materials are free and available through an open software license.
The OWASP Foundation first started in 2001, but was established as a nonprofit charitable organization in the United States in 2004. Since then it has grown into an international IT leadership organization. True to their mission, OWASP does not endorse or recommend commercial products or services. OWASP chooses to remain vendor neutral in order to continually provide the IT security network it serves unbiased information, as shown in their core values.
- Open: Everything at OWASP is radically transparent from our finances to our code.
- Innovation: OWASP encourages and supports innovation/experiments for solutions to software security challenges.
- Global: Anyone around the world is encouraged to participate in the OWASP community.
- Integrity: OWASP is an honest and truthful, vendor neutral, global community.
As a leader in the security field, OWASP has developed a strong community and provides a wealth of free resources. OWASP’s blog is regularly updated to provide relevant and crucial information regarding software and IT security. Additionally, OWASP’s podcast “OWASP 24/7” is available for listening on demand and via subscription through iTunes. Finally, follow OWASP on LinkedIn in order to connect with other IT security professionals.
