Cybersecurity around the world

There is no such thing as “boundaries” to hackers. Through phishing scams and ransomware there are many opportunities for a cybercrime to happen anywhere in the world. While we mainly focus on American cybercrimes, we don’t hear so much about countries combating these high-tech information heists.

Which countries are best prepared?

The World Economic Forum’s Partnership for Cyber Resilience is an initiative created in response to the growing importance of cybersecurity. More than 100 organizations were involved in a study– focusing on quantifying the impact of cyber threats. After gathering all the data the World Economic Forum released a list of the countries that are best prepared for cyberattacks:

A few of the top cybersecurity ecosystems outside the U.S.

Israel

A leading country in the middle east on cybersecurity is Israel. There are more than 200 cybersecurity companies located in the relatively smaller country, mainly in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Additionally, Israel has more than $3 billion in annual cyber exports, which is impressive for the size of the country. Leaders in Israel include Check Point, CyberArk  and Imperva.

London, England

Though not as extensive as areas in the U.S., cybersecurity activity in London is the strongest in Europe. CyLon is Europe’s first cybersecurity startup accelerator. The company aims to help businesses develop information security technology and products, helping to grow the cybersecurity scene in London. CyLon’s members include CyberLytic, Intruder and Sphere Secure. Additionally, the U.K. government has created many programs to tackle cybercrime and increase knowledge and awareness on the subject.

Australia

Australia Parliament has set aside $230 million to fund cybersecurity improvement and spending for the next 4 years. In July 2015, The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) released its first public Cyber Security Threat Report outlining the range of cyber adversaries targeting Australian networks, their motivations, the nature of the attacks and their impact. This was an important first step in sharing more information on cybersecurity threats and started the trend of increased cybersecurity initiatives by the Australian government.

Cybercrime has now become a business which exceeds a trillion dollars a year in online fraud, identity theft, and lost intellectual property, affecting millions of people around the world, as well as countless businesses and the governments of every nation. It’s important to recognize and understand that there are many emerging global leaders outside the U.S. to partner with and learn from to fight cybercrime.
