The UMSA Foundation is proud to recognize the outstanding students selected as recipients of the 2026 UMSA Foundation Scholarships. These students represent the future of cybersecurity and technology leadership, bringing dedication, resilience, and passion to their academic and professional journeys.
This year’s recipients are pursuing degrees and certifications across Minnesota and beyond while balancing coursework, leadership roles, research, work responsibilities, and community involvement. Through the support of donors and partners, these scholarships help reduce financial barriers and empower students to continue building careers that will strengthen and protect our communities.
Below, meet the 2026 scholarship recipients and hear directly from them about what this support means to their future.
Kelley Archer Scholarship Recipient – $3,000
Faaliha Mohamed Prem Navaz
Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Student | Metropolitan State University
Faaliha is pursuing combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in cybersecurity and hopes to become a cybersecurity specialist focused on securing systems, information, and communities.
“This scholarship will help me put more time and effort into continuing my career. This would include certifications, research, and leadership positions.”
Faaliha shared that being selected for the award reinforces her belief that her goals are “valid and worth pursuing” and encourages her to continue striving for excellence.
$3,000 Scholarship Recipients
Nathnael Haile
Senior | Metro State University
Nathnael is passionate about cybersecurity and shared that the scholarship allows him to continue pursuing his education without placing additional financial strain on his family.
“This scholarship will allow me to focus fully on my studies without having to worry about picking up an extra shift at work.”
He added that the recognition motivates him to work even harder and eventually give back to others pursuing their own passions and goals.
Sai Keertana Lakku
Senior | Minnesota State University, Mankato
A senior studying Computer Science with a focus on AI and Cybersecurity, Sai Keertana balances a demanding academic schedule with working 40 hours a week while conducting machine learning research related to cybersecurity threat detection.
“This scholarship would give me more space to focus on learning and building instead of constantly balancing work hours alongside coursework.”
Sai Keertana also serves as Treasurer of the Cybersecurity Association and participates in competitions and hackathons. She shared that this award feels like “encouragement to keep going” and reassurance that her path in AI and cybersecurity is meaningful and valued.
Sincere Cooper
Junior | Mount Mary University
Sincere shared that the scholarship gives her “room to breathe” while pursuing academic goals and building toward a future in cybersecurity.
“When you’re trying to stay focused, do well in school, and keep building toward something bigger, financial support can make a real difference.”
Being selected for the award, she said, feels like “a moment of confirmation” that the hard work and discipline she has invested in herself are leading somewhere meaningful.
$1,000 Scholarship Recipients
Javelia Morrison-Galimore
Junior | St. Cloud State University
As an international student balancing academics and leadership responsibilities, Javelia shared that the scholarship helps sustain her ability to remain fully engaged in her studies.
“This support ensures that, despite the demands of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses, my progress remains uninterrupted.”
She described the award as both an honor and affirmation of her resilience, academic effort, and commitment to her future.
Bemnet Mekonnen
Junior | Metropolitan State University
Bemnet is pursuing a future in cybersecurity and IT security while building hands-on technical skills and certifications.
“Receiving this funding allows me to focus more on my studies, certifications, and real-world projects instead of worrying about financial limitations.”
He shared that the award represents recognition of his journey from building a foundation in IT support to pursuing a cybersecurity career.
Gobinda Pandey
Junior | Saint Cloud State University
Gobinda shared that the scholarship is especially meaningful as an international graduate student pursuing professional cybersecurity certifications and leadership opportunities.
“This support allows me to focus more deeply on my research and my leadership role within the campus community.”
He described the award as “a powerful validation of my resilience” and emphasized his commitment to mentoring peers and contributing positively to the cybersecurity field.
Saa Tonguino
Senior | Hennepin Technical College
Saa is pursuing cybersecurity education while balancing significant financial responsibilities.
“This funding reduces the pressure of tuition and allows me to focus fully on mastering the skills I need for my career.”
Saa said the recognition strengthens confidence and serves as motivation to continue pushing forward through challenges.
Dalair Franzen
Junior | Dunwoody College of Technology
Dalair is currently working toward earning Security+ certification and preparing for an internship with the Federal Reserve.
“Cybersecurity certifications and tools are expensive, and the cost adds up fast on top of tuition.”
He shared that the scholarship support allows him to focus on building his skills and career without sacrificing other financial responsibilities.
Jenisha Sharma
Junior | St. Cloud State University
As an international student pursuing cybersecurity, Jenisha explained that the scholarship helps ease financial stress and allows her to focus more fully on her studies and career goals.
“This award gives me confidence in my abilities and encourages me to keep pushing toward my goals.”
She added that the recognition reminds her that others believe in her potential and inspires her to continue growing both academically and professionally.
Charlotte Fusi Awah
Junior | Metropolitan State University
Charlotte shared that the scholarship support helps reduce financial burden while allowing her to focus on building technical skills and participating in networking and professional opportunities.
“This recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence and to grow both academically and professionally.”
She also expressed her desire to one day give back and support future students pursuing similar goals.
Kara Briggs
Freshman | Iowa State University
Kara shared that the scholarship brings her closer to attending her dream school and achieving her long-term goals.
“This award means the world to me and that I can attend my dream school.”
Her message to future students was simple but powerful: “Never give up on your dreams.”
