With no formalized cold case unit, Sergeant Karakostas applied his knowledge and skills from investigating homicides towards cold case investigations. He sought and obtained support from FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and local FBI field office which resulted in the 2015 formation of a cold case task force partnership between MPD and the Minneapolis FBI. Throughout his cold case investigations, Sergeant Karakostas developed a user-friendly and team-building approach to successfully investigating and prosecuting these challenging cases.
