SUMMARY:MN ISSA Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our June Chapter Meeting will be held June 18\, 1:00-4:00pm\, at St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis. Come out and join us for our informative presentations and great networking with your coworkers\, colleagues and friends! \nMeeting Agenda \n\nSocial networking: 1pm – 1:30pm\nPresident and Board opening statements: 1:30pm – 1:50pm\nPresentation: 1:50 – 2:40pm\nBreak: 2:40pm-2:50pm\nPresentation: 2:50pm – 3:40pm\nDrawings and closing remarks: 3:40pm – 4pm\nHappy Hour\n\n\nIdentity and Access Management? Where’s My ROI? \nSuccessful businesses recognize the value of open communications within and outside of their borders. Achieving this means that the physical and virtual perimeters that had previously defined most organizations’ IT and security systems have disappeared. As a result\, the role of Identity has become more critical not only for security but also for enabling effective business interaction across all constituents. \nIdentity and Access Management has been a difficult issue for enterprises since long before the cloud\, but the rise of cloud-based applications has added a significant layer of complexity to the problem and forced enterprises to put an even bigger emphasis on identity as a way of managing access to enterprise resources. In a recent poll\, CIOs indicated that: \n· 30% of enterprises view security as a top concern in preventing them from taking full advantage of the cloud \n· 72% believe Identity and Access Management is the key security issue for the cloud \nBut most CIOs feel that their investments in Identity projects have not delivered on their promises. The fact that identities are fragmented across the enterprise is a significant contributor to the failure of these projects. A survey PwC indicates that the average enterprise has 68 internal and 12 external account directories and that 75% of internal users and 38% of external users are in multiple directories. What is needed is a way to get the last mile of integration into the various identity silos that already exist within the enterprise\, a way to rationalize this data\, and a way to make this identity useable by application developers and projects that need it. \nThis session will provide insight into how to most effectively leverage your investments in identity and build a service that will allow identity to be consumed by future business initiatives \nDavid Stearn BIO: \n \n\nFor over 30 years\, David has been helping enterprises discover technology solutions to solve business problems. As an Account Executive at Radiant Logic\, he works with customers to leverage their existing identity investments to support upcoming business initiatives. \nTopic: Blocks and Chains: Realities of Digital Ledgers in Enterprise Security \nDescription: This presentation will discuss the impact of Blockchain\, or digital ledgers\, on the enterprise. After the crypto currency crash\, has blockchain failed to meet expectations? What should security be focused on. \nPresenter: Andrew Howard\, Chief Technology Officer\, Kudelski Security \nBio: Andrew Howard is a Technology Executive who has driven technical and security advantage for a variety of commercial and government enterprises. He has built\, transformed\, and led teams globally. He led a preeminent cyber security research and development organization (@Georgia Tech)\, designed leading information security programs following catastrophic breaches (@PwC)\, and is defending leading global brands (@Kudelski). At Kudelski\, he focuses on innovation\, product development\, and business development. He is a regular consultant and speaker for C-suites and boardrooms across the Fortune 500. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council. \n\n\n\n\n\nMN ISSA members in attendance at the meeting have the opportunity to win several book giveaways recommended by our speakers: \n\n[Book Recommendations TBD]\n\nSee other past recommendations.

SUMMARY:BCPA Chapter Event: Strategic telework and continuity of operations
DESCRIPTION:Telework has been practiced throughout the United States and the world based upon the “ad Hoc” approach. It has enjoyed the unique support of the government. This model focuses on training volunteer employees to prove the concept within an organization.  The method generally results in random individuals working random schedules from random locations throughout the organization. Typically there is not a long term plan\, a set of numeric goals or even a comprehensive analysis of the employer’s workforce or facility reduction potential.  For years\, the telework community has been talking about Telework’s role in addressing continuity issues but whenever it snows in Washington\, many of the 800 numbers go offline. \nIn contrast\, the Strategic Telework approach was designed to address all of the shortcomings of the ad hoc program as originally conceived in the 1970’s.  The Workforce Virtualization Program comprehensively evaluates all occupations; its Success Predictor profiles the opportunities and the concerns about a full deployment program.  Most notably it incorporates: \n\nVirtual Continuity and Disaster Recovery Team\n\n\nFacility Right-Sizing Program\n\n\nAccountability and Managerial Oversight Program\n\n  \nToday’s session will consist of a Q & A style comparison of the existing and virtual approach to continuity. \n\nProfiling various approaches to Continuity\n\n\nReviewing current costs of existing Continuity Programs\n\n\nTesting regime and Response/Recovery expectations\n\n\nIdentifying the “triggers” and access to hazards (regional risks)\n\n\nUnderstanding where the ‘industry’ is relative to a Virtual Continuity Program\n\n\nDescribing a Virtual Continuity Structure and Process\n\n\nAbout the presenter\, John Sanger: \nAn architect by training\, a planner by vocation\, and a community entrepreneur by default\, John has adopted a Smart Region vision based upon a year-long Community Dialogue Process that asked individuals from across the state\, “What does your community need to do to thrive in the Information Age?”  Their answer became the foundation for his work plan over the last 25 years. Results of his research and development now define his SmartRegions.US concept. \nIt is increasingly clear that anything physically accessible will be available electronically. Thus\, organizations of all types will live and die by how they integrate a virtual work model. John’s book\, “Slaying the Status Quo” defines a vision and implementation process for this to happen using a mutually supportive\, integrated effort that effectively unifies the community\, public and private sectors across a region. \nBecause the future of productivity depends on the many applications of telecommuting to sustain an ever-growing global society\, John challenges policy makers who dismiss the impacts of  e-Shopping (Amazon)\, e-Meetings (optimally used in news broadcasts) e-Learning now forecast to dominate half of the higher ed marketplace “in just a few years” . He believes that the comprehensive deployment of virtual applications enables a freedom of residential choice beginning with employers implementing virtual work systems. By reducing facility costs and increasing continuity effectiveness\, they satisfy needs of their workforce while also concurrently reducing congestion\, addressing climate change all at a net reduction in costs. \nJohn’s plan sets realizable expectations that help to revitalize a dying rural America by broadening the scope of today’s smart cities methods into a more integrated form of smart region. His community typology defines six types of community; three urban and three rural\, each of which play vital roles in supporting improved economics and cultural diversity created by a defining broader multi-state regional plan. \nClick here for the original event posting on the BCPA calendar.
